La festividad de Todos Santos entre los nahuas: muerte, culto e intercambio de dones

Abstract

The Nahua of the Sierra de Zongolica are part of the nearly eight hundred thousand Nahuatl language speakers living in Mexican territory. But having a common language, the Nahuas are located in diverse contexts in ecological and cultural. There are also important distinctions linguistic region to region, even within the same area dialects are manifested in some cases associated with municipal divisions. In the state of Veracruz, located on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico, are currently located in four major regions Nahuatl speaking population: the Huasteca, the north, the Sierra de Zongolica and Orizaba valley in the central belt and saw santa Marta, south. According to census data, there are about three hundred thousand in Veracruz Nahuatl speakers. In the highlands of Zongolica region that concerns us here, inhabits the third of them.

Los nahuas de la sierra de Zongolica forman parte de los casi ochocientos mil hablantes de lengua nahua que habitan en el territorio mexicano. No obstante contar con una lengua común, los nahuas actuales se ubican en contextos diversos en términos ecológicos y culturales. Existen además diferenciaciones lingüísticas importantes de una a otra región; incluso al interior de una misma zona se manifiestan variantes dialectales, en algunos casos asociadas a las divisiones municipales. En el estado de Veracruz, ubicado en la costa del Golfo de México, se localizan actualmente cuatro regiones principales con población de habla nahua: la Huasteca, al norte, la sierra de Zongolica y el valle de Orizaba en la franja central y la sierra de Santa Marta, al sur. De acuerdo con los datos censales, existen alrededor de trescientos mil hablantes de náhuatl en Veracruz. En la sierra de Zongolica, región que aquí nos ocupa, habita la tercera parte de ellos.
