The effect of different fungicide treatments was evaluated on the control of mango (Mangifera indica L.) fruit diseases, cvs. Tommy Atkins and Haden, at the Fabio Baudrit Experimental Station and at La Troyka farm in Atenas - Costa Rica, respectively. The trial was conducted from November 1983 to August, 1984. A Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications was used. The treatments applied were: a) cooper, mancozeb and iron salts at the rates of 1.05, 1.0 and 0.3 g a.i./l, respectively (Trimiltox Forte), b) captafol, cooper and zinc at the rates of 1,5, 0,36 and 0,18 g a.i./l, respectively (Zincofol), c) mancozeb (Dithane M-45) at the rate of 2.40 g a.i./, d) the mixture of benomil (Benlate) and mancozeb (Dithane M-45) at the rates of 0.35 and 2.4 g a.i./l, respectively and e) the control (no fungicide). For the trial at the Fabio Baudrit Experimental Station, four weekly sprays were applied from the emergence of the tassels up to 52 days before picking. At the La Troyka farm, the four weekly sprays were applied, corresponding to the period between the tassel emergence and fruit set, but later four fortnightly sprays were applied up to 21 days before picking. The incidence and severity of the diseases was appraised at blooming, harvest and pos - harvest of fruits. It was measured with the use of visual grading and the data was analyzed by the nomparametric statistical test of Kruskall-Wallis. The best treatment for both cultivars was the mixture of benomil + mancozeb. The importance of the applications was ascertained in order to keep low levels of inoculus, during the blooming and growing stages of the fruits, as the prevention against these latent infections is vital for the shelf-life of the fruits.en_US
