| es_ES |
dc.description.abstract | An experiment was conducted to evaluate the selectivity and efficiency of three herbicides for controlling weeds in beats (Beta vulgaris L. - EarlyWonder” cultivar), at an altitude of 1700m a s l, in Cot-Cartago, Costa Rica. The herbicides used were: metolachlor (0.5 and 1.0 kg/ha), metamitron (4.0 and 5.0 kg/ha), both in pre-emergence and EPTC (2.0 and 3.0 kg/ha) merged before planting. The sixtures applied were; metamitron + metolachlor and metamitron + EPTC, each one at their lowest rates. Aweeded and an unweeded controls were also included. The most cmmon weeds were: Amarantus retroflexus, Galinsoga ciliata, and Ipogandra disgrega. Phytotoxic effects were caused by EPTC. The chemical treatments that produced a good weed control were those containing metamitron, besides of producing the largest number and weight of roots, alike the weeded control. The presence of weeds during the whole cycle reduced the total number of plants and the number of marketable plants by 43% and 62%, respectively, as well as the total wight of plants and the weight of marketable plants by 74% and 82%, respectively. The mixture of metamitron with metolachlor (4.0 + 0.5 kg/ha) was the most profitable treatment, followed by metolachlor (1.0 kg/ha). | en_US |
