Poblaciones y sistemas de siembra de frijol común (Phaseolus vulgaris L.), asociado con maíz (Zea mays L.)

Abstract

En Grecia, Alajuela, Costa Rica, se evaluó la asociación maíz-frijol bajo dos sistemas de siembra: a. Una hilera de frijol entre dos hileras de maíz; b. Frijol entre las posiciones de siembra del maíz, y tres poblaciones de frijol (100.000 – 200.000 y 300.000 plantas/ha). El maíz Tuxpeño planta baja, se sembró a 1 m entre hileras y dos plantas por sitio de siembra espaciados a 0,5m. Se emplearon dos cultivares de frijol Brunca y Huetar; la siembra fue simultánea y se efectuó el 7 de junio de 1982. El 23 de agosto se cosechó el frijol y el 19 de octubre el maíz. Los dos cultivares de frijol en los dos sistemas de siembra y tres densidades, no afectaron significativamente los rendimientos del maíz. La altura de la planta de esta gramínea sí se afectó por el sistema de siembra. El cultivar Brunca fue más producitivo que el Huetar. Los costos de producción fueron más elevados en el sistema de frijol intercalado entre hileras de maíz y el mayor margen bruto se obtuvo al sembrar Brunca a 200.000 plantas/ha, en la misma hilera del maíz.

A trial of association of common bean and maize under two planting systems was conducted in Grecia-Alajuela, Costa Rica. Three bean populations (100 000, 200 000 and 300 000 plants/ha) were used ant two planting system: a- one row of beans between two rows of maize and b- beans planted among the maize in the same row. The dwarf Tuxpeño maize was planted at 1m between rows and two plants per site at 0.50m of each other. The Brunca and Huetar bean cultivars were simultaneously planted on June 2, 1982. The beans were harvested on August 23ᴿᴰ and the maize on October 19ᵀᴴ. The two bean cultivars under the two planting systems and the three plant densities did not affect the maize yield. The production costs were higher with the beans interplanted on the maize row, but the largest gross return was produced by the Brunca cultivar using 200 000 plants/ha.
