Abstract
Este artículo analiza los recursos que generan el humor lingüístico característico en la obras breves
The Dumb Waiter y Mountain Language, de Harold Pinter, a la luz de la teoría holo-cultural del humor,
según la proponen Alford y Alford. Se observa la función de los insultos, referencias escatológicas,
malentendidos y el uso del humor negro para concluir si los recursos que Pinter utilizó adquieren un
carácter de universalidad y si se mantienen constantes en su obra temprana y posterior.
This article analyzes the resources that generate the particular linguistic humor in Pinter’s The Dumb Waiter and Mountain Language under holo-cultural theoretical premises of humor, as proposed by Alford and Alford. Insults, scatological references, misunderstandings, and the use of black humor are observed to conclude whether or not Pinter’s early and late work include them and if those resources become more universal.
