Also, an un weeded and weeded (25 days after planting) controls were included. The mixture of chlorbromuron with alachlor and all of those containing linuron produced severe phytotoxic syaptoms to the beans, reduced the number of plants at harvest time and showed the lowest yields. The treatments with DNBP (2.0 kg/ha) + pendimethalin (0.75 kg/ha), chlorobroauron (1.5 kg/ha) + metolachlor (1.0 kg/ha) or alachlor (1.0 kg/ha) and linuron (0.75 kg/ha) + metolachlor (1.0 kg/ha) reduced the weight of fresh broad leaf weeds by 98%, 96%, 95% and 94%, respectively, when compared to the unweeded control. The mixture based con DNBP (2.0 kg/ha), betazon (1.0 kg/ha) and chlorobromuron (1.5 kg/ha) + pendimethalin (0.75 kg/ha) or metolachlor (1.0 kg/ha) produced similar yields as the controls. The unweeded treatment was the most profitable due to the low incidence of weeds on the row of pruned coffee because of the intense herbicide application.
Chandler) at the Fabio Baudrit Experiment Station in Fraijanes, Alajuela, Costa Rica. All the fertilizer was applied at applied at planting time, set at 15cm beneath the plant. The soilin fraijanes is of volcanic origin with a high phosphorus fixation capacity. The trial was conducted from June 1985 to April of 1986. A complete Ramdeaized Block Desing with four replications was used, and a population of 55,555 plants/ha. Fruit yield was recorded by weight and number of fruits. The highest yield in grass and the largest number of fruits was produced with the highest dose of 600 kg/ha, eventhough it was not significantly different from the 200 and 400 kg/ha treatments. The control treatments with no fertilizer produced earlier, but by the and of the picking season their yield was lower.
Ningún herbicida afectó negativamente el crecimiento de la raiz, tallo y hojas de la piña.; An experiment was conducted in order to select pre-emergent herbicides, efficient in controlling woods and selective to pineapple (cv. Monte Lirio) in San Carlos, Alajuela-Costa Rica. From August 1987 to January of 1988. A Complete Randomized Block Design with four replications was used. The population density was 41,667 plants per hectare. The herbicides were applied three days after planting with a sprayer operated by carbon dioxide. The best control of broad-leaf weeds, during the first 90 days after the application, was achieved with the monthly bead weeding, terbutylazine, simazine, diuron, ametrine and limuron . All the treatments, except the atrazine, significantly reduced the weight of the prasimeous weeds in relation to the treatment of free competence. Only oxyfluorfen caused necrotic lesions at the aid portion of the central leaves of the pineapple, although the plants recovered later. None of the herbicides affected negatively the growth roots, stens or leaves of the pineapple.
An assay was conducted to study the effect of four growth regulators, a physiologic activator and a neutralizing agent on the growth, blooming and profitability of the pineapple (Ananas comosus L. Merr), Monte Lirio cultivar. The trial was conducted from June 24th through December 14th, 1986 in Jesus Maria de San Mateo, Alajuela, Costa Rica. The treatments resulted from the factorial combination of the growth regulators, the physiologic activator (nitrogen at the rate of 0.64 g/plant) and the neutralizing agent (calcium carbonate at the rate of 32.2 mg/plant). The growth regulators used were: naphtaleneacetic acid (NAA), 2,4 dichlorphenoxy acetic acid (2,4-D), 2-chlorethylphosphonic acid (Ethephon) and calcium carbide at the rates of 0.041 mg/plant, 0.70 mg/plant, 0.028 mg/plant and 0.46 g/plant, respectively. The 2,4-D induced a lesser blooming when it was mixed with nitrogen and calcium carbonate, although there was no difference with NAA, Ethephon and calcium carbide. The 2,4-D when mixed with nitrogen and calcium carbonate affected negatively its blooming. The calcium carbide produced the largest number of fruits. The nitrogen and 2,4-D increased the fruit size, but reduced the number of the B grade fruits. The mixture of Ethephon, 2,4-D or NAA with nitrogen affected negatively the total number of fruits, but the calcium carbonate did not produce that effect. The mixing of nitrogen and calcium carbonate enhanced the production of injured fruits of the A and A+B grades. The 2,4-D produced the largest amount of juice. The mixture of nitrogen with calcium carbonate increased the Brix degrees and the Index Brix degrees/acidity of the fruit juice, with respect to Ethephon. The 2,4-D and calcium carbonate produced the largest number of off-shaped fruit and Ethepho the smallest number.
