Additions to the Genus Bactris (Arecaceae)of Mesoamerica
(2000)
Two new endemic species of Bactris, found in the understorey of humid forest on the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica, are described and illustrated. Bactris ana-juliae is 1.8-3.0 m tall, and B. herrerana is 2.0-3.0 m tall.
Genetic diversity and reproductive biology of the dioecious and epiphytic bromeliad Aechmea mariae-reginae (Bromeliaceae) in Costa Rica: implications for its conservation
(2019)
Ecological traits and pollination mode associated with dioecious sexual expression in plants are likely to influence
their reproductive success and levels of genetic diversity. Dioecy is an uncommon condition in Bromeliaceae. ...
Elevational and seasonal patterns of plant pollinator networks in two highland tropical ecosystems in Costa Rica
(2024-01-11)
Many plant species in high montane ecosystems rely on animal pollination for sexual repro- duction, however, our understanding of plant-pollinator interactions in tropical montane hab- itats is still limited. We compared ...
Neotropical flowering epiphyte diversity: local composition and geographic affinities
(2013)
Worldwide, the highest diversity of vascular epiphytic plants resides in the Neotropics. The general pattern of taxonomic composition of the neotropical epiphytic flora has been described, but information regarding the ...
Licaria caribaea (Lauraceae): A New Species from the Caribbean Lowlands of Costa Rica
(1999)
Effects of Dry Tropical Forest Fragmentation on the Reproductive Success and Genetic Structure of the Tree Samanea saman
(2002)
Tropical trees are particularly vulnerable to forest fragmentation because of their low densities, self-incompatibilty system, and high rates of outbreeding. Forest fragmentation is likely to decrease gene flow, increase ...
Dispersal limitation in epiphytic bromeliad communities in a Costa Rican fragmented montane landscape
(2009)
Transformation of tropical forests is likely to affect seed-dispersal patterns and influence the composition of epiphytic plant communities in human-altered habitats. We tested this hypothesis by carrying out a comparative ...
Bombacaceae
(2020)
Como parte del proyecto del Manual de Plantas de Costa Rica, la primera obra completa sobre las plantas vasculares con flores del país, se describen las 29 especies y 10 géneros de plantas pertenecientes a la familia ...
The effect of conspecific density, herbivory, and bamboo on seedling dynamics of a dominant oak in a Neotropical highland forest
(2019-10-17)
Conspecific negative density dependence (CNDD) is one of the main mechanisms
influencing diversity maintenance in tropical forests. Tropical highland forests, in
contrast to most lowland forests, are commonly dominated ...
