Los repositorios institucionales y de acceso abierto en Costa Rica

Abstract

Se presenta en este artículo una breve conceptualización de los repositorios institucionales y cómo estos han ido abriendo un campo fundamental en la democratización de la información y el acceso al conocimiento en el mundo. Se exponen las principales iniciativas que existen en Costa Rica en este sentido, la mayoría pertenecientes al sector público, con una breve descripción de ellas y las diversas modalidades que contienen. Estas iniciativas están relacionadas principalmente con repositorios institucionales, pero también los hay especializados en menor medida. Se hace un análisis de las limitaciones existentes para que se amplíe y acelere su presencia en la web y se concluye que su estado es muy incipiente aún. Por último, se proponen medidas para avanzar y se reconoce el impacto que están teniendo en la sociedad costarricense.

This article includes a brief discussion about the institutional repositories concept and how they have been achieving the most important way of information democracy and access to the world knowledge. Herewith, it presents the most important Costa Rican initiatives at the public sector with a brief description and characteristics they have. Most of these initiatives are institutional archives of official documents, but also we can find specialized ones. There is an analysis of the limitations, scopes and future prospects of these described situations in order to call the reader’s attention to accelerate its development and presence on the web. It concludes that Costa Rican repositories are in an incipient stage and suggests some ways to advance and recognize their potential to positively impact Costa Rican society.
