Caracterización cualitativa y cuantitativa de algunos genotipos de mamón chino (Nephelium lappaceum) en la zona sur de Costa Rica

Abstract

El estudio se realizó durante los años de 1992 a 1994 en la zona sur de Costa Rica, en cuatro fincas de agricultores localizadas en Golfito y Corredores. El principal objetivo de esta investigación fue seleccionar germoplasma de la zona para caracterizarlo de forma cuantitativa y cualitativa, además se investigaron algunos tipos de reproducción vegetativa. Se seleccionó material de cuatro fincas de agricultores ubicadas en Paso Canoas y Golfito. Las características cuantitativas de cada material se midieron de 10 frutos colectados de los cuatro puntos cardinales del árbol, estas características fueron: largo, diámetro mayor y menor del fruto, largo del pelo, diámetro de la semilla, grosor de la cáscara y la pulpa, y grados Brix. Las características cualitativas que se determinaron fueron: tipo de flor, color del fruto y desprendimiento del arilo. Se identificaron 12 materiales de exelente calidad que cumplieron con todas las características de mercado tanto para exportación como para consumo nacional. Las características predominantes fueron : longitud mayor de 4,5 cm, color de fruto rojo, grados Brix mayores de 18, además el grosor de pulpa osciló entre 0,5 y 1 cm. Se realizaron varios ensayos de reproducción asexual, y los mejores resultados fueron por medio de por acodos usando como sustrato musgo y ácido indolbutírico (AIB) como regulador de crecimiento.

This study was conducted during the years 1992 to 1994 in four farms in Golfito and Corredores in southern Costa Rica. The main object was to select the germplasm in order to characterize it qualitative and quantitatively, besides of testing some methods of asexual reproduction. The quantitative characteristics of each material were recorded from 10 fruits, collected from the four cardinal points of the tree. These characteristics were: length, smaller and larger diameter of the fruit, length of the hair, seed diameter, thickness of the rind and pulp, and Brix degrees. The qualitative characteristics evaluated were: type of flower, fruit color and shedding of the aril. Twelve materials of excellent quality were identified that met all the characteristics for the export and domestic markets. The prevailing characteristics were: length greater than 4.5 cm, red color fruit, Brix degrees over 18, and pulp thickness between 0.5 and 1.0 cm. Several assays of asexual reproduction were conducted, and the best results were produced by layering with moss as the substratum and indolbutyric acid (IBA) as the growth regulator.
