Caracterización cualitativa y cuantitativa de la colección de cítricos de la EEFBM

Abstract

El presente trabajo se realizó en la Estación Experimental Fabio Baudrit M., desde 1991 a 1998. El principal objetivo fue rejuvenecer, establecer, conservar y caracterizar la colección de cítricos, con el fin de mantener un banco de yemas disponible para la investigación, docencia y la acción social. Se sembraron tres árboles de cada una de las 70 introducciones de cítricos. La distancia de siembra fue de tres por tres metros; esto debido a que la intención era manejar la colección en forma de seto, con el fin de reducir el área de siembra, facilitar las labores de mantenimiento y disminuir los costos. Las caracterizaciones cualitativas y cuantitativas del sistema foliar, se realizaron utilizando diez hojas por cada introducción. Se determinó el tipo, forma y margen de la hoja, presencia de alas en el peciolo, forma de la hojuela, y largo y ancho de la lámina y del peciolo (cm). Para la caracterización de los frutos se utilizaron diez frutos por introducción. Las características cualitativas medidas fueron: forma, color y sabor del fruto maduro, color de la cáscara y pulpa, y presencia de semillas. Las características cuantitativas analizadas fueron: largo y ancho del fruto (cm) y grosor de la cáscara (mm). Se encontró mucha variabilidad en todas las características analizadas, lo cual era de esperarse ya que se trata de una colección de germoplasma. La mayor varia- bilidad presente correspondió a las naranjas, mandarinas y sus híbridos, ya que constituyen el mayor número de entradas en esta colección.

The present work was conducted at the Fabio Baudrit Experiment Station, between 1991 and 1998. The main objective was to rejuvenate, establish, preserve and characterize the Citrus Collection, in order to maintain a bank of genetic material available for research, teaching and extension. Three trees of each of the seventy introductions were planted. The planting distance was of 3 x 3 meters, with the purpose of managing the collection as a hedge, thus reducing the planting area, easing labor and reducing costs.The characterization of the foliar system was conducted using ten leaves per introduction. The type, shape and border of the leaves, presence of wings on the petiole, shape of the leaflet and length and width of the lamina and petiole(cm), was determined. For the fruit characterization, ten fruits of each introduction were used. The qualitative characteristics measured were: shape and taste of the ripe fruit, color of the rind and pulp and presence of seeds. The quantitative characteristics were fruit length and width(cm) and thickness of the rind (mm). Agreat variability was found among all the characteristics measured, as it is expected when dealing with a germplasm collection. The greater variability found corresponded to the oranges, tangerines and their hybrids, which comprise the largest number of entries in this collection.
