Thirty one broccoli cultivars Brassica oleracea var. Italica (hybrids and open pollinated) were evaluated between 1983-1985 in the main vegetable producing areas of Costa Rica, located from 1736 to 2900 meters above sea level. The performance of the cultivars was variable and some of them were susceptible to diseases, showing poor quality for processing and fresh marketing. The hybrids, Green Valiant and Shogun, showed the best performance at the different localities. The Pirata hybrid is considered as a good genotype to be included in future trials.
