ROSTROS DE MIGRACIÓN EN THE NEW AMERICANS DE RUBÉN MARTÍNEZ

Abstract

Population displacements from one country to another due to economical or social reasons are with no doubt, not recent situations. In the specific case of the United States, the people who opt for this change is not only of Mexican origin, as it is often believed. There is an extensive variety of nationalities of those who attempt to arrive to this country searching for the so called American dream. Taking the book The New Americans by Ruben Martinez as a departing point, I propose an analysis of the immigration situation to the United States and how the author humanizes and is able to give these people a face in order for them to stop being a figure or a statistic.

Los desplazamientos de población de un país a otro por causas económicas o sociales, sin duda, no son situaciones que se han venido presentando en años recientes. Por otra parte, y específicamente en el caso de los Estados Unidos, las personas que optan por este cambio, no son solo provenientes de México, como se suele creer. Existe una extensa variedad de nacionalidades que intentan llegar a este país en busca del llamado sueño americano. Partiendo del libro de Rubén Martínez titula The New Americans, propongo un análisis de la situación migratoria hacia este país y cómo es que el autor humaniza y logra otorgarles un rostro a estas personas a cambio de que no continúen siendo una cifra o estadística.
