Which is why the data presented were not subject to any standardization, but are described based on the knowledge and experience of each of the aforementioned professionals. Information is complemented with theoryprovided by the existing literature regarding the development of the child.For presentation purposes, the profile describedis divided into four sections: general characteristics of the physical, emotional area, areapsychomotor and cognitive-linguistic area. Este artículo corresponde a un perfil teó-rico del infante costarricense cuya edad oscila entrecuatro y cinco años. Contempla algunas de las características del desarrollo socioemocional, psicomotriz ycognitivo-lingüístico de esta población.Su propósito es enriquecer el Programa de Estudio delCiclo Materno Infantil propuesto por el Ministerio deEducación Pública, brindando al docente que atiendeinfantes del Grupo Interactivo II, información básicaque le permita identificar la etapa del desarrollo enque se encuentran estos niños, de manera que les pueda ofrecer un proceso educativo acorde a sus necesidades e intereses.La caracterización que se expone se definió con elaporte de diversos especialistas en el campo de la salud y la educación. Razón por la cual los datos presentados no estuvieron sujetos a estandarización alguna, sino que se describen con base en el conocimiento y la experiencia de cada uno de los profesionales citados. Se complementa la información con la teoríaque aporta la bibliografía existente con respecto al desarrollo del niño.Para efectos de presentación, el perfil que se describese ha dividido en cuatro apartados: características generales del desarrollo físico, área socioemocional, áreapsicomotriz y área cognitivo-lingüística.
