Abstract
This paper explores the construction of the characters as alienated beings in a chaotic city, found in short stories from El circo del deseo (2009), by Cirus Piedra. It also addresses narrative techniques supporting the representation of chaos in the space where the characters are inserted. It is concluded that due to the urban context, the characters are narratively developed according to “types” (without identity qualities), and with their otherness, they represent rupture with society, according to their degrading actions and disturbed relationships.
