It was possible to confirm the susceptibility of hillside movements in the analyzed section of the San José-Caldera highway, a situation that puts the safety of road users at risk and compromises the operation of the road in the face of a natural event such as heavy rains. or earthquake Another type of identified fault is that produced by erosive agents (eg, rain, surface runoff, wind) on the materials that make up the slope, which manifests itself in irregularities and furrows left by the runoff in the originally regular slope plane, condition that if it is not attended to in time it could have an impact on the formation of gullies or the failure of the slope. The residual soils of important thickness are located in the sites closest to the Río Grande-Guácima segment and the appearance of isolated blocks is frequent, which indicates that they are waste from lava flows. The upper horizons of the residual soils are also very susceptible to erosion, evident by the appearance of furrows left by runoff.
