Abstract
El herpes zoster (HZ) se produce por la reactivación del virus latente de la varicela-zoster presente en los ganglios sensitivos del paciente. La causa de la reactivación es desconocida y puede estar asociada con factores predisponentes como la edad, el estrés o el deteriorado sistema inmune. La condición se caracteriza por la aparición de múltiples vesículas que rompen rápidamente, dejando pequeñas úlceras, muy dolorosas que se distribuyen de forma unilateral a lo largo del nervio infectado, la erupción es
precedida de hormigueo y dolor en la zona. El diagnóstico
en la mayoría de los casos es extremadamente clínico, pudiendo ser realizados algunos exámenes complementarios.
La principal secuela que puede aparecer tras la desaparición
de los signos cutáneos es la neuralgia posherpética. Se requiere un tratamiento rápido, especialmente en individuos
inmunocomprometidos para evitar complicaciones que
pueden causar una significativa morbilidad. El objetivo de
este trabajo es presentar un caso de HZ que se manifiesta
en la segunda división del nervio trigémino y evidenciar la
importancia de un diagnóstico precoz y tratamiento adecuado.

The cause of the reactivation is unknown and may be associated with predisposing factors such as age, stress or impaired immune system. The condition is characterized by the appearance of multiple vesicles that break quickly, leaving small ulcers, very painful distributed unilaterally along the infected nerve, the eruption is preceded by tingling and pain in the area. Diagnosis in most cases is extremely clinical and may be made some complementary tests. The main sequel that may appear after the disappearance of cutaneous signs is postherpetic neuralgia. Early treatment especially in immunocompromised individuals is required to avoid complications that can cause significant morbidity. The aim of this paper is to present a case of HZ involving the second division of the trigeminal nerve and demonstrate the importance of early diagnosis and appropriate treatment.
