Abstract
On June 22, 2012, engineers from the Unit of Management and Evaluation of the National Road Network of the LanammeUCR and the School of Civil Engineering of the University of Costa Rica toured the National Route 27 in order to determine the conditions of different hydraulic and geotechnical structures, following up on reports presented in the past by the LanammeUCR, to determine the evolution of these structures over time and the actions taken by the concessionaire in terms of construction of new works and maintenance or modifications for the existing ones. In this route five points were analyzed: Km 36 + 400, 39 + 000, 39 + 300, 40 + 500 and 47 + 500. The evaluation shows that although the concessionaire has done some hydraulic and geotechnical works, especially for the management of runoff water, there are still some situations that need to be improved, mainly because some works still seem to be identified that do not seem to correspond to an engineering criterion in its design and construction and others that, although they have been emphasized in previous reports, are still unmet or unimproved. Some slopes were identified to require protection against erosion, the design and construction quality of the ditches should be reviewed, as well as some works that could present erosion and scour problems. The need of including maintenance programs for all works on the road infrastructure is highlighted.
