Abstract
La frontera de cristal, by Carlos Fuentes, is constructed as a discursive space of social, political and economical confrontation in the context of a frontier. In other words, the sociality of the text is developed among frontier spaces which are transgressed. The principal aim of this article is to sketch, from the sociocritical perspective, the particular facts which characterize and constitute this social discourse, as well as how they evince those spaces which portray boundaries in this text. It is concluded that textual polyphony precludes assigning social discourse to one simple limit, as the border goes far beyond geopolitical divisions between nations. Paradoxically, the border of a globalized Mexico is not one, but rather a complex mosaic which creates, mutates, and destroys in vague spaces, and for this, it is illusion and reality, which becomes omnipresent; fragile but never conquered.
