Abstract
The present study focuses on adolescent patients from the Obstetrics and Gynecology Service of the San Juan de Dios Hospital, who utilized the subdermal implant with etonogestrel during the period from 2017 to 2022. The objective was to define the main side effects and the abandonment rate. For this study, an observational, descriptive, cross-sectional and retrospective analysis was carried out, where different digital and physical files from the gynecology and obstetrics office were used, with a total sample of 200 patients, to whom a telephone survey was carried out. In this study, it was obtained that 96.5% of the patients presented side effects with the use of the implant, with abnormal uterine bleeding being the most prevalent, in addition, a device abandonment rate of 14.5% was documented, this in association with side effects. Moreover, it was determined that 83% of the patients who removed the implant early, even if they received complete information about possible side effects of the implant prior to its placement, would not have changed their mind regarding its removal.
