Determinación de dimorfismo sexual de Gynaikothrips garitacambroneroi (Thysanoptera: Phlaeotripidae) inductor de agallas en Ficus benjamina

Abstract

En este trabajo se busca determinar la existencia de dimorfismo sexual en Gynaikothrips garitacambroneroi (Retana-Salazar), involucrado en la formación de agallas en árboles de Ficus benjamina. El estudio se llevó a cabo en las regiones central y occidental del Valle Central de Costa Rica (VC), se recolectaron un total de 40 agallas en cada sitio, se midieron y compararon varias características morfológicas de los insectos, determinando la variación entre sexos y poblaciones mediante un análisis de factores discriminantes, además se cuantificó la abundancia en las agallas del thrips depredador Androthrips ramachandrai (Karny). Se obtuvo que sí se presenta dimorfismo sexual en la especie objetivo, así como una diferenciación morfológica entre las poblaciones. El sitio que presentó la mayor abundancia de A. ramachandari fue la región central del VC.The sexual dimorphism of Gynaikothrips garitacambroneroi (Retana-Salazar), was studied in this paper, this species is a gall-inducer thrips on Ficus benjamina. The study was conducted at the central and occidental regions of the Central Valley in Costa Rica (VC), from which 40 galls were collected at each site. The morphological differences between sexes and the morphological differences between populations were analyzed using a discriminate analysis. Also the abundance into the galls of the predator thrips Androthrips ramachandrai (Karny) were quantified. The results showed the presence of sexual dimorphism in the target species as well as some morphological differences between the populations studied. The occidental region of the VC presented the highest abundance of A. ramachandari.
