Ten ceramic vessels were recovered during archaeological excavations in the church of San Blas de Nicoya, Costa Rica. Given their contextual association, they have been dated in relative terms as used in the 17th century, the colonial period. This document analyzes the ceramic design of some of these objects from a technical perspective; observing, among other elements, manufactu ring techniques, firing, morphological aspects and surface treatment. This last aspect will be made from a study of visual and design elements; like shape and color. In addition, an approach to the representation and inference of its importance within the indigenous colonial society of the time is presented, based on graphic elements; made up of stylizations of most likely mythical beings and geometric decorations, with the aim of evidencing a persistent pre-Columbian influence in their elaboration and use.
