Data from an archaeological rescue allow to propose Cerro Mar (G-462 CM), Culebra Bay, northwestern coast of Costa Rica, as a camp site dedicated to labor force for nearby saltworks. This characterization stems from evidence documented in horizontal excavations, within spaces indicated by a previous test-pit evaluation. The archaeological interpretation takes into account radiocarbon determinations corresponding to the Culebra Phase (A.D. 500-800), as well as ethnohistorical analogy on activity areas. The short lasting occupation is unforeseen, given the multicomponent pattern of various settlement sites around Culebra Bay, together with the favorable location of Cerro Mar, which has a drinking-water spring active throughout the year.
