Abstract
En Alajuela, Costa Rica se evaluó del 26 de setiembre al 21 de diciembre de 1986 la rapidez, apariencia de las vainas, producción de grano seco y facilidad de desgrane, en ocho variedades comerciales de vainica (Phaseolus vulgaris L.): Extender, Provider, Resisto, Picker, Blue Duet, H-496-2-9, Horizon y 80-142. La variedad de mayor producción de grano fue la Picker. Las de mayor facilidad de desgrane fueron Extender, Provider y Picker. En agrado general, al consumir las vainas cocidas, la mejor variedad fue Provider. En apariencia general las mejores variedades fueron: H-496-2-9, Provider y Extender.
In Alajuela, Costa Rica, a trial was conducted from September 26th to December 21th, 1986 to evaluate earliness, pod quality, dry grain yield and ease of shelling of eight commercial string-bean varieties: Extender, Provider, Resisto, Picker, Blue Duet, H-496-2-9, Horizon and 80-142. Picker showed the highest grain yield. The varieties showing the highest ease to shelling were: Extender, Provider and Picker. Provider was the best variety in the cooked-pod palatability trial. The varieties with the best overall quality were: H-496-2-9, Provider and extender.
