Abstract
There is a small amount of studies on the perception of environmental landscape quality in tropical countries. For this reason, we carried out a study in Golfito, a small coastal city in the South Pacific of Costa Rica. With an open survey applied to 20 people, of ages between 82 and 94 years old, we found that for them, the aspects that give the local landscape its identity -and relevance to its conservation- are the presence of nature (represented by the sea and the mountains), and the infrastructure built in the banana plantations times and style of the twentieth century
