Costa Rica. Alajuela: San Miguel de Sarapiquí, June 4, 1941, C.H. Lankester 1496 (holotype, AMES).
Epiphytic, caespitose herbs to 20 cm tall. Roots 1.5–2 mm in diameter. Pseudobulbs elliptic–oblong, dorsoventrally flattened, superficially striated, 3–4 × 0.5–1.5 cm, stems reduced. Leaf sheaths 3–4, basal, papyraceous, dark brown when old. Leaves oblong– elliptic to elliptic, short petiolate, acute,
conduplicate, coriaceous, 8.5–12 × 1.1–1.6 cm. Inflorescence lateral, erect; peduncle 4–5 cm, bracts papyraceous, 5–7 × 2.5 mm, infundibuliform, apiculate, rachis 1.5–3 cm, with 2–3 flowers. Floral bracts 5–6 × 4–5 mm, acute, ovary and pedicel 3–3.4 cm. Ovary reclining, verruculose 0.7–1 cm. Flowers with the sepals and petals dusky brownish to hazel basally, lemon yellow apically, lip white with the nerves mauve, the basal central area yellow to orange, column yellow with the margins of the stigma reddish, pollinarium with yellow pollinia, stipe translucent and the viscidium rust color.
