The following article presents the results of a qualitative and exploratory research made from a series of interviews and observations of producers at El Trueque Organic Fair, located in San Cayetano, San Jose, Costa Rica. The fair is analyzed from a proposed social solidary economy. For this, characteristic aspects of the capitalist market economy are taken and opposed to those alternatives a social solidary economy offers. The stated objective is to analyze the fair considering its reaches, its limits and its potential to become an inclusive economic space. The results point to a space with multiple solidarity practices that seek to meet the needs of producers and also to question and even partially transform, the economic logic that dominates the national and international context. The fair is a good example of social project that challenges the assumptions of the hegemonic economy.
