Abstract
Con base en los aportes teórico-metodológicos del metabolismo social y la con!ictividad socio-ambiental, junto con una amplia revisión y análisis de documentos
técnicos, cientí'cos y estadísticos, se demuestra que en el período 1990-2017 la
producción piñera de exportación ha crecido signi'cativamente en la región
Atlántico/Caribe de Costa Rica. Sin embargo, este crecimiento se sustenta en la
aplicación intensiva de plaguicidas, cuyos residuos se 'ltran al medioambiente y
causan contaminación de ecosistemas y daños a la salud pública.
Este sistema productivo es insustentable y provoca con!ictividad ambiental entre
vecinos, empresas y Estado, al contaminar los ecosistemas e impedir su explotación a las poblaciones locales, quienes interpretan que esta situación atenta contra
su subsistencia.
Through a longitudinal analysis based on social metabolism and environmental conflict and an extensive review of technicians, scientists and statisticians documents, it has been demonstrated that in period 1990-2017 pineapple production oriented to mains wolrd markets has presented a significantly growth in the Atlantic/Caribbean region of Costa Rica. This growth has required large quantities of pesticides, whose residues are 'ltered into environment and cause contamination and damage to people's health. Thus, it is possible to afirme that pineapple`s production system is responsable of environmental conflicts between communities, corporations and State beacuse local population interprets that this type of agriculture attents against health and social reproduction
