Abstract
Perfiles ABC es una empresa que se localiza en toda Centroamérica y cuyo giro de negocio es la distribución de aluminio y vidrio para la industria, especialmente de la construcción. En cada país de la región, tiene varias sucursales; específicamente en Costa Rica, hay tres: San José, Pérez Zeledón y Liberia. La empresa tiene casi 40 años en el mercado costarricense; sin embargo, en los últimos años, ha perdido participación en ese mercado por diferentes razones, como lo son: ingreso de nuevos competidores, guerra de precios, entre otras. A su vez, la compañía ha experimentado problemas financieros, principalmente en los últimos años.
Para la elaboración de este proyecto, se analizó la información general y, principalmente, la información financiera por un período de cinco años, con lo cual se determinó el estado actual de esta, así como las causas y los efectos de la gestión realizada durante esos cinco años. Por lo cual, se determinó que la carencia de un área financiera dificulta que se tomen las mejores decisiones de esa índole.
Lo anterior se evidencia en que la empresa está experimentando problemas en su rentabilidad y debilidades en varios indicadores financieros. Sin embargo, es importante resaltar que la compañía también se encuentra en un periodo de espera de recuperación de la inversión realizada recientemente en las nuevas sucursales de Liberia y Pérez Zeledón.
Finalmente, posterior al análisis y el diagnóstico financiero realizado para los cinco años, se recomienda a la empresa la creación de un área financiera que sea responsable realizar el análisis financiero periódicamente. A su vez, se sugiere la implementación de un modelo y herramientas para dicho análisis. Así mismo, se dan recomendaciones en áreas como ventas, inventarios y, gestión de crédito y cobro.
Perfiles ABC is a Company located in all Central America region, and which its core business is the distribution of Aluminum and Glass for industry, especially the Construction. There are several stores around the region, but in Costa Rica there are three located in San José, Pérez Zeledón and Liberia. The Company has almost 40 years in the Costa Rican market, however, in the past few years has lost market share for different reasons, such as: entry of new competitors, prices, among others. Also, mainly in recent years, the company has experienced financial problems. Therefore, for this project, the general information and mainly the financial information was analyzed for a five years period. The analysis for the information allowed to determinate the current status for the Company and also the causes and effects of the management during those five years. Then, without a financial area it is more difficult for the Company to make the better financial decisions. Consequently, the company is experiencing different problems with its profitability and also there are weaknesses in several financial indicators. However, it is important to note that the company is also waiting to recover the investment made recently in the new stores during the next years. Finally, after the analysis and financial diagnosis made for the five years, it is recommended for the Company to create a financial area. This area will be responsible to make the financial analysis periodically. It is also important for the Company the implementation for a financial model and the uses of different tools for such analysis. Also, there are other recommendations in areas such as sales department; inventories department and credit department.
