Estudio de Puriscal IV. Morbilidad infecciosa del niño

Abstract

This paper presents the findings of a prospective study of the infectious morbidity of a cohort of 114 rural infants throughout their first year of life. Results indicate that upper respiratory infections were the most frecuently found illnesses and were more prevalent between 9 and 11 months, followed by diarrheal disease which was common in infants 6 to 8 months of age. The comparison of these results with those of other studies indicate a low rate of infectious diseases among Puriscal children, and also revealed the importance of weekly surveillance to determine morbidity in a reliable manner.En este trabajo se presentan los hallazgos de morbilidad infecciosa obtenidos del seguimiento de 114 niños en forma prospectiva a traves del primer año de vida. Se encontra que la IRS es la infección mis frecuente, seguida de diarrea y en tercer lugar la bronquitis. Las infecciones en general fueron mas frecuentes entre los 9 y 11 meses de edad. La diarrea fue mas frecuente entre los 6 y 8 mesas de edad. Al compararse con otros estudios se demostró que los niños de Puriscal tienen una Baja tasa de morbilidad infecciosa. Se revelo Ia importancia de los estudios semanales pare determinar Ia morbilidad real presentada por un individuo dado.
