Abstract
The present study titled “Patellofemoral instability in children and adolescents: Systematic review” has as its General Objective to carry out a systematic review of studies on patellofemoral instability in children and adolescents between 2019 and 2024. Specific objectives: to identify the state of research related to anatomy and biomechanics, to determine risk factors, to inquire about diagnostic postures, to summarize management techniques and to propose an approach to manage patellofemoral instability for children and adolescents. Results highlight that patellofemoral instability is common in young people and can significantly interfere with daily and sports activities. Two categories are identified: instability and patellofemoral pain syndrome without associated instability. The importance of anatomy and biomechanics for clinical diagnosis and therapeutic decisions is emphasized. Conclusions indicate that patellofemoral instability is a complex condition with multiple risk factors, and that appropriate treatment requires a thorough evaluation of the patient’s anatomy and biomechanics, as well as their functional objectives.
