Abstract
Este artículo examina la trayectoria de la arquitecta, historiadora y activista costarricense Ofelia Sanou Alfaro (San José, 1950) a través de un análisis bibliográfico, en el que las publicaciones de Sanou ocupan un lugar central. El artículo identifica las características principales de un proyecto de investigación en historia de la arquitectura que Sanou empieza a elaborar a partir del año 1998. Este proyecto está definido por un novedoso entrelazamiento metodológico de la historia política y económica del país con las historias de objetos, instituciones y profesionales en arquitectura. En ese sentido, el trabajo académico de Sanou aparece como una práctica arquitectónica, en tanto que está inscrito en el interés de la autora por el espacio construido y por las posibilidades de pensar la profesión. Se concluye retomando las particularidades de la obra de Sanou, su potencial como plataforma para la formulación de nuevas interrogantes y su vigencia contemporánea.
This article examines the trajectory of Ofelia Sanou Alfaro, a Costa Rican architect, historian, and activist born in San José, in 1950, through a comprehensive bibliographical analysis, with a particular focus on Sanou’s publications. The article identifies the main characteristics of her research project in architectural history, which she began developing in 1998. This project stands out for its innovative methodological approach, intertwining the political and economic histories of the country with the histories of architectural objects, institutions, and professionals. Consequently, Sanou’s academic work can be seen as an architectural practice, rooted in her profound interest in the built environment and her exploration of new possibilities for the profession. The article concludes by highlighting the unique aspects of Sanou’s work, its potential as a platform for formulating novel inquiries, and its continued relevance in contemporary contexts.
