Abstract
The pressure distribution in an impact stilling basin (USBR type VI) was analysed in this contribution. The pressure distribution was experimentally measured in a physical model. Results suggest that maximum pressure occurs in the lower third of the impact wall along the symmetry axis of the structure as wells as on the floor slab, in the near region of the impact wall. Furthermore, it was observed that a discharge increment does not necessarily imply an increment of pressure. Values of mean pressure coefficient as well as fluctuating pressure coefficient were determined in order to quantify the mean pressure field as well as the fluctuating pressure values.
