Abstract
Summary Introduction: The visual health of the elderly Costa Rican population is affected by cataract disease, which is treated surgically. The Theory of Comfort seeks to define a Nursing Process (NP) in the postoperative period to guarantee the required care and safe care. Justification: Through the application of NP based on comfort as part of care, in the late postoperative period; the aim is to show the relevance of the intervention carried out by the professional in surgical nursing, in order to optimize recovery and prevent complications. Objective: To develop a care plan for an older adult undergoing a lens extraction procedure in the late postoperative period. Referential Framework: The background shows comfort as a basic need of people. The concepts developed were: Perception of Comfort, Cataract, Nursing Process and NANDA, NIC and NOC Taxonomy. Methodological Framework: This work constitutes a case study and the data collection method was the NP, through its stages to identify care needs, NANDA diagnoses, NOC results and NIC interventions. The approach of a specific case was carried out. Results: The main dependent care needs are: need 2: eat/drink, need 3: eliminate, need 4: move and maintain an adequate posture. The main NANDA diagnoses were: [00214] Discomfort related to alterations in the postoperative environment (physical space) manifested by lack of knowledge in postoperative care and [0085] Impaired physical mobility related to pain in knees and legs manifested by lack of physical activity (exercise). The main NIC intervention was: [6480] Environmental management and the result was manifested in the satisfactory achievement of home care in the elimination of risk factors for falls, promotion of safety and the state of comfort [NOC 2009]. Discussion: During surgical processes, the comfort of the person is altered and this is related to the disease or procedures performed. Nursing intervention in this case is aimed at taking measures to meet the comfort needs of users and the subsequent assessment of said intervention. Conclusion: In the implementation of the nursing taxonomy, the ability to adapt and respond to the parameters is evidenced, to mitigate possible risks or complications and promote comfort, reflecting importance towards the recovery of their health.
