Every year, hundreds of students who are non-native Spanish speakers attend university courses at Spanish speaking institutions. In fact, this language keeps gaining popularity and importance as a means used to transmit knowledge. Due to this, students who have other native languages face communicative difficulties since they lack the required level of academic Spanish to comply with the demands of their university courses. For that reason, this research provides a didactic proposal to teach academic writing in Spanish to non-native students, who have a B2 level, and who are taking, or will take, university courses in Spanish. The proposal was created after having consulted relevant sources and after having completed a needs analysis where non-native Spanish students participated. These students had taken courses at the University of Costa Rica; some of them had previous Spanish academic writing courses, however, many of them did not have this advantage prior to attending their classes.
